Training and Development

Barnet Safeguarding Children Board is committed to providing high quality multi-agency training. Our aim is to ensure that staff across the partnership have the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver high quality safeguarding services.

A range of courses and workshops are available during the year for professional staff from different agencies to attend. This is an opportunity for people to come together and develop and improve integrated working by learning in a multi-agency context.

Our training programme focusses on areas of practice prioritised by the Board for 2016-18. These are:

  • Priority 1: Child and Adolescent Mental Health / Self-Harm
  • Priority 2: Neglect
  • Priority 3: Domestic Abuse
  • Priority 4: Online Safety
  • Priority 5: Information Sharing
  • Priority 6: Resilience Based Practice

Online training

The Board has purchased a comprehensive range of online Safeguarding courses that are free to professionals. These cover:

  • Introduction to Child Protection
  • Further Child Protection
  • Introduction to Adult/Child Protection
  • Further Adult/Child Protection
  • Online Safety
  • Online Safety for Parents
  • Child Protection for Childminders
  • Child Protection for Equestrian Volunteers

In addition, the Online Safety training course for parents is available at a special purchase rate for schools at £1 per license.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness Training:

BSCB invites you to attend a 3-hour FREE drug and alcohol seminar at North London Business Park. The seminar will be facilitated by WDP Health Trainers and will include:

  • Substances and their effects (traditional drugs and new psychoactive substances)
  • Addiction and stigma
  • How you can broach the topic of substance use as a professional
  • Who we are, what we do and how to refer to WDP

You will receive a confirmation email once your place on the training has been secured.
